Role
As Human Centered Design Research Scientist, Lucas provides consultative support to Suicide Care Research Center (SCRC) funded studies on design methodologies. Additionally, he is a team member on the Connections Study, which aims to develop a suicide care intervention package for young people experiencing suicidality in integrated behavioral health settings. He also provides project management support for SCRC’s Methods Core.
Background

Lucas earned a B.S. in Materials Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2019 and a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Community Centered Integrative Practice from the University of Washington in 2023.

Before joining SCRC in September 2023, Lucas supported 600+ community engaged learning positions for undergraduate students every quarter as Program Manager for Community Partnerships at the University of Washington’s Community Engagement & Leadership Education Center. In this role, he managed relationships with 200+ community organizations across Seattle that hosted students for community-engaged learning opportunities and collaborated with instructors to integrate community-engaged learning into their courses.

Prior to joining the University of Washington community, Lucas worked as a Design Fellow at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. There he created human centered design pedagogy in collaboration, with a focus on first-year and capstone courses, and conducted design research for clients in education, healthcare, and community engagement.
